It is a modern adaptation of the 1898 ghost story The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. [6] The film stars Mackenzie Davis, Finn Wolfhard, Brooklynn Prince, and Joely Richardson, and follows a young governess in the 1990s who is hired to watch over two children after their parents' deaths. The film first entered development in March 2016 and was described as a passion project for Steven Spielberg, who executive produced, wanting to be involved in a horror film again. The adaptation went through two phases of production: first as Haunted with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo attached as director, then as The Turning with Sigismondi. Filming took place at Killruddery House, County Wicklow, Ireland [7] from February through April 2018. The film had its world premiere at Los Angeles Film Festival on January 23, 2020, and was theatrically released in the United States on January 24, 2020 by Universal Pictures. When she reaches the gate, she exits her car to open it and is attacked by a ragged looking man. Some time later, Kate Mandell is leaving her job as a teacher to become a governess for the seven year old Flora Fairchild after Miss Jessel's disappearance. Before leaving she visits her mother, who lives in a mental institution because she suffers from delusions. Upon arriving at the Fairchild Estate, Kate is informed by the caretaker Mrs. Grose that Flora witnessed her parents die in a car accident outside the house's gate and is a "special case. Kate meets Flora who gives her a tour of the grounds, and confesses that she is afraid Kate will leave her without saying goodbye like Miss Jessel did, but Kate promises not to. That night, Kate investigates a disturbance in the East Wing, which Flora refused to show her earlier. There she encounters Flora's brother Miles, who is back from boarding school. Despite avoiding the subject as to why he has returned, the following day Kate receives a call from the school's principal who informs her that Miles is expelled after being found strangling another boy. This startles Kate, who only becomes more aggravated with him when he and Flora begin pulling pranks on her. She lashes out at Miles, but later apologizes. Miles suggests he teach her how to ride horses to make it up to her, as their former riding instructor Quint had recently died. Kate starts to notice strange occurrences happening at night, so she begins to keep her lights on when she goes to sleep. One day she suggests they go into town, to the dismay of both Flora and Mrs. Grose. Miles convinces Flora to go, but she throws a fit outside the gate and proceeds to run out of the car after Kate refuses to stop it. Miles warns her that keeping the lights on won't keep her safe and warns her to leave before going after Flora. However, Kate decides to stay due to her promise to Flora. After reconciling with both Flora and Miles, they play flashlight tag in the house. While looking for Miles in the basement, Kate is attacked by the ghost of Miss Jessel and has her flashlight taken away after she drops it. Kate finds Miss Jessel's journal which contains increasingly frightening entries about how Quint was obsessed with her, wouldn't leave her alone, and even took pictures of her while she slept. When Kate enquires about it, Mrs. Grose says tells her that Quint died a couple weeks following Miss Jessel's departure when he fell from his horse while riding drunk. Kate is frightened by this information and the journal entries, and continues to see Quint and Miss Jessel's apparent ghosts around the house, making her increasingly paranoid. Kate receives art from her mother in the mail, and Mrs. Grose comments that it's lucky her mother's condition "isn't genetic. She is led by wet footprints and Miss Jessel's ghost to discover her dead body in a pond on the house grounds. Kate also has a vision of Quint raping and strangling Miss Jessel upon returning to the house. She tells Mrs. Grose, who appears to have already known about it and assures Kate that she made sure that Quint died. Quint's ghost appears and pushes Mrs. Grose over the stair bannister, killing her. Kate gathers the children and takes them away in her car. The following sequence [ clarification needed] is revealed to have been a vision Kate had while looking at her mother's art and Mrs. Grose saying it's lucky her mother's condition "isn't genetic. Kate walks in on the children talking about her and becomes convinced that she sees Quint's ghost in the mirror, insisting that Flora saw him too despite her protests. When Kate accidentally breaks Flora's doll, Miles takes her away from Kate and smirks at her, calling her delusional. Kate later walks into her mother's mental institution and approaches a figure that appears to be her mother; as the figure turns around Kate screams in horror. The face of the figure is not revealed. Cast [ edit] Mackenzie Davis as Kate Mandell Finn Wolfhard as Miles Fairchild Brooklynn Prince as Flora Fairchild Joely Richardson as Darla Mandell [8] Barbara Marten as Mrs. Grose Mark Huberman as Bert Niall Greig Fulton as Peter Quint Denna Thomsen as Miss Jessel Kim Adis as Rose Karen Egan as Nancy Darlene Garr as Holly Production [ edit] Development [ edit] The film first entered development in March 2016 and was described as a passion project for Steven Spielberg, who executive produced, as he wanted to be involved in a horror film again. [9] The film adaptation went through two phases of production: first as Haunted with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo attached as director, then renamed as The Turning with Floria Sigismondi. [10] 11] Fresnadillo project (2016. edit] On March 9, 2016, Deadline Hollywood reported that Amblin Entertainment was hiring Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to direct Haunted, which was inspired by Henry James ' 1898 gothic ghost story, The Turn of the Screw and would be scripted by Chad Hayes and Carey W. Hayes, and with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, John Middleton and Scott Bernstein as the producers. [10] Haunted, which was to shoot under the DreamWorks label, would have been one of the first new projects to move forward since DreamWorks, Amblin and Participant Media formed the new Amblin Partners in late 2015, and DreamWorks, after distributing its films through Disney 's Touchstone Pictures since 2008, struck a new distribution deal with Universal. [10] On August 1, 2016, it was announced that Alfre Woodard had signed on to the project. [12] Later that month, Rose Leslie joined the project as the lead. [13] On September 21, 2016, five weeks before shooting, Spielberg personally pulled the plug on the project [10] because Scott Z. Burns ' 1-page rewrite caused seismic changes in the story's fabric (altering characters, action, even the title) and it no longer resembled the project the studio signed on to make. [10] Spielberg and DreamWorks decided the best course of action was to fire Fresnadillo and Burns and go back to the original Hayes' script and looking to start fresh development with a new director despite 5 million having been spent of the 17 million budget. [10] Sigismondi project (2017 onward. edit] On August 24, 2017, Deadline reported that Amblin Entertainment had set Floria Sigismondi to direct Haunted, now renamed as The Turning, 11] which would feature a new draft by Jade Bartlett based on the original script by Chad and Carey W. Hayes. Production was expected to start in early 2018 with Scott Bernstein and Roy Lee still attached as producers. [14] In October 2017, Mackenzie Davis signed on to portray the lead role of the nanny. [15] In December 2017, it was announced that Finn Wolfhard was cast as one of the orphans. [16] In January 2018, Brooklynn Prince joined the cast. [17] In February 2018, the rest of the cast was announced as principal production commenced. [6] The casting of Joely Richardson was announced in January 2019. [18] Filming [ edit] Principal production began in Ireland on February 14, 2018. [6] Filming began with the cast and crew behind strict security at Killruddery House in County Wicklow Filming for Wolfhard and Prince concluded on March 27, 2018. [19] 20] Principal photography for the film completed on April 6, 2018. [21] Music [ edit] The film's score is composed by American composer Nathan Barr. [22] The film's soundtrack will feature tracks from names like Pale Waves, Mitski, girl in red, Kali Uchis, Vagabon, Courtney Love, Warpaint, Alice Glass, The Aubreys, Lawrence Rothman and Soccer Mommy. [23] Release [ edit] The film was originally scheduled to be released on February 22, 2019, by Universal Pictures. [24] In September 2018, the film was removed from Universal's release schedule, with DreamWorks Animation 's How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World being released in its place. [25] It was released on January 24, 2020 with Universal releasing the film wide domestically and in select international territories. [26] Marketing [ edit] The first trailer was released on October 9, 2019. Reception [ edit] Box office [ edit] In the United States and Canada, the film was released alongside The Gentlemen, and was projected to gross 7–9 million from 3, 000 theaters in its opening weekend. [27] The film made 2. 5 million on its first day, including 425, 000 from Thursday night previews. It went on to debut to 7. 3 million, finishing sixth at the box office. [28] Critical response [ edit] On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 12% based on 82 reviews, with an average rating of 3. 7/10. I was 25. I was a college dropout after being kicked due to poor grades. I had zero ambition and direction in life. One fine evening I was partly drunk in the bar at a goddamn Chilis, about to take home this girl I worked with at a shitty retail job, when I had this sudden realization that this was my life. It hit me harder when I looked over at my little brother, who had this very overweight girl sitting on his lap that he was going to take home, and he drunkenly looked over at me and gave me the saddest smile Ive ever seen. I realized I was living a shit life that was going nowhere, and I had pulled him along with me instead of pushing him to do better things by example. I drove home drunk that night, and when I made it safely to my apartment I pulled over and cried for about an hour. After that I started making small changes. I stopped going to the bar after work, and started looking for better jobs. I finally landed something good because somebody took a chance on me, and it allowed me to start a career in IT. I met a great girl that believed in me, and pushed me to be better, and we got married. My brother struggled for a long time. Those years with me made a serious dent in his life that took a while to recover from. I tried to help where I could, but he pushed me away for a long time. I think he felt like I had abandoned ship and left him to drown. Eventually I started my own business and my life took off. None of it was easy, but that night really turned things around for me. It was kind of a wake up call, and a feeling of hitting rock bottom.
He drives like the old Momoz IMO. It was visible in F1 vids, but it went through the roof in GT:S. OH my God. ❤😍❤😍❤. That is the only non insane way to fix that famously stupid scene, but if you watch the movie it's pretty clear that there is no indication that is what is happening. In the movie he clearly is reversing the rotation of the earth, as it keeps traveling in it's reversed direction even when he is no longer spinning around it fast, he then speeds back up in the opposite direction to make it move again in the correct way. Any sane person trying to explain that scene will go with the speed of light thing, but watching the movie it's extremely clear the intention is turning back the days by literally farris bullering the miles off by running rotation backwards as his action is very clearly changing the rotation as it goes independent of him moving, not him going so fast that the earth rotating is a visual indicator for time traveling (like would make better sense.

Theres many i could mention here but that would take ages, im just going to name drop N from vixx learning to accept his skin tone and stopping his efforts to change himself, we dont know if it still hurts him but im sure there comes a time in an idols life where they know how to deal with the same insult theyve heard for years. We dont know if or how it still affects him, but he seems to not be ashamed about it anymore. This also reminds me of Taemins beautiful growth and maturity in the public eye from such a young age, every called him girly but as he gor older he flipped that to "theres a spectrum of how men can be, yknow. Not sure what his turning pount was but we know Jonghyun had a big part in helping him be less self conscious. I believe it was JB that said when he first started his career as GOT7 leader he wanted to win all the time and win shows and awards as much as possible but then he realized the competition is really high. Then he started to focus more on being the best artist he can be to the people that listen to his music.

Introduction: Gael was very enclosed in his home as a child but soon found his pact-blade as he and his friends were attacked on a search of a ruined kingdom. The blade called to him and ever since he clutched its hilt he has felt the energy flow through his body. Very honest and overall respectful in his stature but has slowly grown dark in the way he acts due to the influence of his patron, the goddess of wind who has been banished to the referable underworld. The world he lives in is run on the energy of magic where strong warriors and wizards protect those who do not wield such power. After his home town Illium, the largest city in the continent, was attacked by a large mechanical angel most life in the city has changed. Gael grew up to the stories of these heros who fought off the mechanical angel and looked up to them for the power and strength he did not have before he wielded the pact-blade, after growing used to his powers he headed east towards a large archipelago in search of new and unheard stories and history. This search has led him to join in a group of adventurers who promised to give transport and adventure to this bookworms life. Physical Appearance/ Gear: Gael is a male in his early twenties around 23, with grey almost storm cloud colored eyes with white hair cut short on the sides but kept long and recently in a small ponytail leaning towards the back of his head. His skin is a light blue color like most Air Genasi with small lighter almost engraving like symbols flowing across his fairly muscular but fairly normal sized body, around 5 feet 9 inches. Gael usually wears his set of half plate armor with royal blue engraving that were purchased as a going away gift from his family, this armor consists of a silver chest plate with the aforesaid blue engravings used as decoration, this also consists of shoulder guards of the same silver color and a royal blue outline. Underneath is a small cover of chainmail to cover his stomach and a darker, almost black, shirt showing around his arm area. His lower area consists of darker black pants with silver metal knee guards followed by a set of steel decorated boots. All of these are decorated with a royal blue scarf around his neck that hangs down past his waist. His wrists are covered with the same silvery blue metal but his hands are left open brandishing dark leather gloves. As for weapons Gael wields his pact-blade, given by the goddess of wind, that he has given the name limbo to accompany the mysterious but calming male voice that can be heard giving short but vivid orders. This blade is a longsword, decorated with a black marble with a blue tint on the hilt with a dark steel blade scratched in places but mostly unused and new, usually wielded with both hands. This sword is kept in a large rather normal sheath on the right hand side of his body mirrored by a large mail bag filled with scriptures and books. Although he would rather wield a book than a sword he does enjoy magic, his favorite being shadow blade, a blade that weaves the shadows from the surrounding area to make a sharp blade that he dual wields with that of his physical longsword. Personality: Gaels personality is that of an unexperienced warrior, he is mostly respectful towards others and overall a positive and always smiling person always willing to give a helpful hand, this personality is shadowed by the intent of his patron sometimes causing him to grow a temperament accompanied by his hair growing darker and a staticy feeling in the air. He is sometime dull towards signals because he is usually face first into a book, he usually interacts respectfully but likes to crack jokes towards his beard taking most of what his more experienced friends seriously. Can sometimes be scared at the sight of a challenge. Background: A journal entry noted immediately after receiving his pact-blade- “This sword is not normal, it called to me when i was in the ruin. Using the words ‘wield me to almost entrance myself in the marble coloring. After wielding it I blacked out and woke up outside the building without my friends and bruises on my body followed by aching. This blade is so much more than metal, its replaced my feeling of scared with one of calm, it seems to lead my body through motions. I have been gaining abilities since I grasped it, i can feel the power and energy it flows through me, allowing me to launch pulses of this energy and make blades out of darkness. In a way this power makes me fearful and in another is disbelief that I wield a similar power to those who saved my home. The sword is telling me to head East, i guess i can use this crew as transport, i believe that this blade has bigger plans than i could ever understand. ”.
I can't wait. She was brilliant in Terminator. Many people have visited.
