Downhill skiing olympics. I love the entire show and im all caught up, however i felt that the show kind of went downhill in the later seasons. I remember I was super hooked in season 2 and it was really intense, then it started to get worse and worse. Is it just me feeling this? This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast level 1 It's a very popular opinion. level 1 I urged my friend who was on s1 (and knew ALL spoilers) to watch a s15 episode so they could see HOW DIFFERENT the shows feel later on. level 1 I’ve been trying to get through season 15 since last year. It just feels over dramatic and cloying now. level 1 Yeah I feel that too, especially with all the girl empowerment and political stuff. I mean if someone likes it, cool but I just don't level 2 I sorta agree but I just think they’re trying to shove it all in the show without any depth at all, just to say they did it (sorry if I’m not being clear, English is my second language). For example they added the interns Qadri and Parker to represent the muslim and trans minorities but they get zero screen time and development when I think they have a lot of potential. It’s a shame. level 1 I mean a post like this comes up every week, so no it’s not just you level 1 I feel the same. Watched season 1 in a week and haven’t been able to watch season 15 in months. It’s so dramatic, unrealistic and all over the place... level 2 Literally a soap drama for 15 level 1 I don't think it's gone downhill, I think it's just has a different feeling than the earlier seasons. Which doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing level 1 The show becomes another show so I think it depends on when you joined. I saw the end of season 5 first and went back so for me my core cast is post Izzie, George, Addison and Burke. It had its moments but for me season 13 is the sole season that is legitimately terrible. It's the only one I don't rewatch.

Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events ( slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, and combined) emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)". [1] Speeds of up to 130 km/h (81 mph) are common in international competition. Athletes must have an aerodynamically efficient tuck position to minimize drag and increase speed. [2] The term, "downhill skiing", is also used as a synonym for alpine skiing as a recreational activity. [3] [4] History Edit The rules for downhill skiing competitions were originally developed by Sir Arnold Lunn for the 1921 British National Ski Championships. A speed of 100 miles per hour (161 km/h) was first achieved by Johan Clarey at the 2013 Lauberhorn World Cup, [5] beating the previous record of 98 mph (158 km/h), set by Italian Stefan Thanei in 2005. [6] [7] Course Edit The FIS has rules for downhill courses that encompass their general characteristics, width, safety precautions, vertical drop, course length, style and placement of gates. [1] General characteristics – As a test of "technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", the course requires the athlete to adapt to the technically demanding terrain and layout of gates. Width – Courses are typically 30 metres (100 ft) wide with allowances for the approaches to "lips, drop-offs and jumps". Safety – Obstacles on courses are expected to be protected with nets, fences, or pads. Vertical drop – Vertical drop ranges from 450 to 1, 100 metres (1, 480 to 3, 610 ft) for men and 450 to 800 metres (1, 480 to 2, 620 ft) for women. Races with two runs may be shorter. Course length – Courses require an accurate means of measurement for length. Gates – Gates consist of pairs of twin poles with a rectangular panel between the poles. Gates have an 8-metre (26 ft) or larger opening. Equipment Edit Equipment for the downhill is different from the alpine events that are lower-speed. Skis are 30% longer than those used in slalom, for more stability at high speed. They usually have rounded, low-profile tips rather than pointed tips. Ski poles are bent so as to curve around the body as the racer stays in a "tuck position" and may have aerodynamic, cone-shaped baskets. As in other alpine disciplines, downhill racers wear skin-tight suits to minimize drag, and helmets are mandatory. In an attempt to increase safety, the 2003–2004 season saw the FIS increase the minimum sidecut radius for downhill skis to 45 metres (148 ft) from 40 metres (131 ft), and impose minimum ski lengths for the first time: 218 cm (7 ft 2 in) for men, and 210 cm (6 ft 11 in) for women. Races Edit In all forms of downhill, both at a local youth-level as well as the higher FIS international level, racers are allowed extensive preparation for the race, which includes daily course inspection and discussion with their coaches and teammates as well as several practice runs before the actual race. Racers do not make any unnecessary turns while on the course, and try to do everything they can to maintain the most aerodynamic position while negotiating turns and jumps. Unlike slalom and giant slalom, where racers have the times of two runs combined, the downhill race is a single run. Times are typically between 1½ and 2½ minutes for World Cup courses and must be over 1 minute in duration to meet international minimum standards. Tenths and hundredths and, occasionally, thousandths of seconds count: World Cup races and Olympic medals have sometimes been decided by as little as one or two hundredths of a second, and ties are not unheard of. The most successful all-time winners of World Cup downhill races are Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria (36 wins, 7 women's titles) [8] and Franz Klammer of Austria (25 wins, 5 men's titles). [9] Lindsey Vonn of the U. S. is currently dominant in woman's downhill racing with a lifetime total of 37 World Cup downhill wins and 7 women's titles. [10] [11] Risks Edit On some courses, such as the Lauberhorn course in Wengen, Switzerland, and the Hahnenkamm course in Kitzbühel, Austria, speeds of up to 150 km/h (93 mph) are common. Safety netting and padding are placed where race officials anticipate potential crashes. Despite these safety precautions, the ski racing community is well aware of the inherent risks of downhill skiing, for it is possible for racers to suffer serious injury or death while practising or competing. Three deaths among World Cup racers in recent years in downhill training or during a race were those of Austrians Gernot Reinstadler (1991) and Ulrike Maier (1994), and France's Régine Cavagnoud (2001). Also in 2001, Swiss downhiller Silvano Beltrametti was paralyzed in a high-speed crash and 1984 Olympic gold medalist Bill Johnson suffered permanent brain damage that eventually led to a crippling stroke which left him unable to function without assistance. Most recently Frenchman David Poisson was killed in a training crash in 2017. Speaking to media after Poisson's death, French former downhiller Luc Alphand noted that "eliminating risk entirely in downhill is impossible". [12] Men's World Cup podiums Edit In the following table men's downhill World Cup podium results in the World Cup since the first season in 1967. [7] Winners receive a distinctive crystal globe. Im sure running with four legs feels amazing. Downhill movie reviews. Downhill kola. Downhill domination. I've been riding for about 8 years now, and I have to say, I've seen some strange fads come and go in that time. Some stranger than others. Although I'm not (by any means) an authority on strange things in longboarding, this one made me giggle a bit.? Don't get me wrong, I like innovation in Longboards as systems and as individual parts. But, this is a 3 wheeled pintail deck that would make me look like i'm doing half the Cha Cha Slide without moving my feet that will set me back $700 - $900, no way in hell. The engineering behind it is really cool though, and credit is due there. I especially like the idea of his third wheel, and wonder what would happen if we took the design principals he used in his wheel, and shrunk them down to 80-90mm wheels that would take to regular trucks. My major fear would be twofold: constantly disrupting the balance of the deck. looking like a fool. But all in all, if you can afford $700 - $900 on a longboard, and you want to ride point to point, why not just buy a designated LDP system? What do y'all think?

Downhill kolo. Can't believe they actually made up the war just so they can film this. The best mtb edit I have ever seen. I'm in love with that video... Downhill bmx. While watching am imagining myself riding my bike on the street and am like. am nothing. The incoherence of “Downhill, ” the remake, by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, of the Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s 2014 drama “Force Majeure, ” is evident from the start. An American family, the Stantons—Billie ( Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Pete (Will Ferrell), and their young sons, Finn (Julian Grey) and Emerson (Ammon Jacob Ford)—arrive at an Austrian ski resort. As they disembark from their tour bus, Billie notices that there are no other children among the swarm of vacationers; moments later, they’re greeted by Charlotte (Miranda Otto), a pushily enthusiastic Austrian host who, asked about the clientele, informs the Stantons that it’s not a place for children but, rather, “the Ibiza of the Alps, ” a pleasure dome for adults where she, flamboyantly libertine, intends to make sure that Billie and Pete get some of the pleasure. (She displays her intentions quickly, giving Billie a pair of hearty kisses on the cheek and, accidentally on purpose, giving Pete one on the lips. ) Who planned this trip? The movie is set in the present day, not in the pre-Internet age of word-of-mouth and published guidebooks. Pete is a real-estate executive; Billie is an attorney. It seems likely that they’d have researched their destination at least a little bit before booking it. In short, the very premise sets up such bewildering and undeveloped practicalities (Did Pete take charge and leave Billie out of the loop? Did he lie? ) that the movie is nearly over by the time it’s begun. Pete is on his cell phone when the Stantons get off the bus (and Billie is reproaching him for being on it); he’s texting his younger colleague, Zach (Zach Woods), who is also on a European vacation—a spontaneous and impulsive one—with his similarly young girlfriend, Rosie (Zoe Chao), whose free-spirited temperament is in brash evidence on their Instagram posts. Pete seemingly envies his childless colleague’s unencumbered life style and openly affectionate relationship. He also yearns for some guy-ish company and so lies to Billie that Zach is getting in touch with him when, in fact, it’s the reverse. At Pete’s prompting, Zach and Rosie eventually shift their plans to join the Stantons. This is all to say that the marriage of Billie and Pete is in trouble from the start, in ways that are both highly stereotypical and severely ill-defined. The Stantons have no politics, no culture, no family background, no range of experience, no interests, no habits, no expressions, no style—no substance and no depth. They are generic white upper-middle-class movie creatures, and Louis-Dreyfus and Ferrell are left to fill the emptiness of their roles with their own reserves of gesture and expression, empathy and curiosity. The event that brings the couple’s relationship problems to a head is the same as in “Force Majeure”: while the family is sitting on an outdoor mountainside deck, a controlled avalanche sends snow barreling down the slope, apparently right at the deck, sparking panic among the vacationers—and, in both films, the paterfamilias grabs his phone and bolts, rather than staying at the table to try to protect his family. (In “Force Majeure, ” he records the avalanche; in “Downhill, ” he doesn’t. ) In both movies, the man’s seemingly instinctive display of cowardice proves instantly corrosive to the marriage. Both films are variations on a theme by Ernest Hemingway—specifically, the one in “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, ” a 1936 story (originally published in Cosmopolitan) about a couple of rich American socialites on a high-priced hunting trip in Africa, where Francis, in the presence of a charging lion, bolts, in full view of his wife, Margot; the white hunter, Robert Wilson, who’s running the hunt; and the local black men who are Wilson’s much-put-upon staff. Hemingway’s story quickly and deeply parses the couple’s intimate secrets and those of their set, the institutional organization of rich people’s safaris and the staffers who work for them, the psychology of cowardice and courage and the psychic overtones and romantic implications of both, not to mention even the inner lives of hunted and wounded animals. (For the record, a far better cinematic drama than “Force Majeure” and “Downhill, ” based on the same theme of Hemingway, is Julia Loktev’s 2011 drama “ The Loneliest Planet. ”) There’s a mistaken notion, popular around Twitter, that “Force Majeure” is actually a comedy. “Force Majeure” is a satire, but its element of comedy is more derisive than funny. (It shares this quality with the films of Michael Haneke, whom Östlund often seems to be knocking off. ) “Force Majeure” masks its superficial and scattershot mockery of bourgeois moral conventions with a chilly style that leaves out his characters’ individual traits, interests, inclinations, and desires, just as Faxon and Rash do. In Östlund’s approach, however, that spare and rigid reserve is a meaningful mannerism—it plays the role of a faux objectivity that masks the filmmaker’s facility as clarity, masks his derision as analysis, masks his contempt as critique. With “Downhill, ” Faxon and Rash (plus their co-writer Jesse Armstrong) prismatically split “Force Majeure” into two distinct strands—the faux sociological critique becomes pure and harsh domestic melodrama, and the element of mockery becomes out-and-out antic comedy that’s applied to the story like goofy stickers. The character of Charlotte tosses off heavily accented malapropisms (informing the Stantons that they can get to the next town in “minutes of twenty”) along with stereotypical European licentiousness (describing sex as no more intimate than a handshake), and Billie’s effort at self-pleasuring in a public setting ends with pure though mild slapstick. It’s the melodrama that’s the core of the film, however, and here Faxon and Rash lapse all the more grievously into flattening stereotypes. So little is known of what’s going on between Billie and Pete, from the start of the film, that her contempt for Pete after his cowardly showing is, rather than an element in their marriage, the entire story. When Pete returns to the table, finding Billie and the boys huddling in terror as the snow blows away, he compounds his act of cowardice with a double denial—refusing to admit that what they’d been through was anything serious or that he’d ditched the family and run. This attempted gaslighting of his family gives rise to the one notable moment in the film, one in which the melodrama veers toward comedy and then sharply back into pathos—a scene in which Billie, in the presence of friends, calls on the boys to deliver their version of what Pete did during the avalanche. It’s a moment that could have set the movie off in new and odd directions. Instead, it stands apart and stands out as a mere plot point, one that is dropped as quickly as it’s presented. (It pops up again later, similarly conveniently, briefly, and inconsequentially. ) The failure of Faxon and Rash mirrors that of Östlund in “Force Majeure”: a too-easy sense that they can recognize and define characters by their type. Just as the main dramatic moment in both films is a whiteout, with the screen’s details obliterated by a barrage of snow, the characters and the milieux that the “Downhill” filmmakers depict are similarly blanked out by a tightly controlled fabrication. They know these people so well, so they think, that their familiarity breeds something as aesthetically dreadful as Östlund’s contempt: indifference.

This is going to sound dumb but after lurking here for a while, I finally took the plunge on my first MTB experience at a downhill park here in NJ. Overall went well, learned a whole lot even on just a few short runs. That being said, the one thing I immediately noticed was the amount of body armor and gear everyone was wearing. Seriously to the point where it looked like a Power Rangers convention. Full body suits, hard (plastic) plated gear, etc. I had purchased some Fox launch pro knee pads prior to going and was initially worried I was under-geared. Guys were wearing more protective gear than I've seen at motocross events. Is this normal? I mean I fell once but it wasn't like I was dressed to dismantle a bomb. For the record, I was wearing knees, elbows, and a full face. I plan on going to another DH park soon and need some elbow pads, should I go with something more hardcore? I am I taking this all too lightly? Or do I go with something like this? Thanks UPDATE: Thanks all, appreciate the input. I wound up purchasing a TLD short sleeve protective shirt and a pair of beefy TLD elbows. I figure this way I’ll have some flexibility. Thanks again!

In adapting Ruben Östlund’s Swedish black comedy Force Majeure for an American audience, directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash haven’t just translated the dialogue but shifted the focus, and in doing so they’ve changed it from a movie that is painfully funny to one that’s just painful. The premise remains the same (as do some of the shots): a husband and wife take their children on a ski vacation, where a pleasant lunch with a view of the slopes is disrupted by what seems to be an avalanche barreling right toward them. When the powder clears, everyone is unharmed, but the husband is nowhere to be found, having abandoned his family in a moment of lizard-brain panic. He then spends the rest of the movie trying to make up for it, his marriage and the respect of his children hanging by a steadily fraying thread. Force Majeure centers on the husband, whose battered masculinity is inherently comic. But Downhill, the remake, shifts to the wife, here called Billie and played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and from her point of view, the discomfort is more likely to catch in your throat. It’s clear even before the avalanche that her marriage to Pete (Will Ferrell) is not in great shape. When they arrive at the alpine resort, which seems to be oriented primarily toward adult singles and couples without children, she’s already in a foul mood, and his response is to act as if they’re already having a great time in the hopes that it’ll eventually catch on. He’s determined that their vacation can be, or can at least look like, as much fun as the one his co-worker Zach (Zach Woods) and his Instagram-fluent girlfriend, Rosie (Zoë Chao), seem to be enjoying, captioned with things like “#noagenda. ” (Billie suggests they use “hashtag #nohashtags. ”) And when the reality falls short, he retreats into his smartphone, hiding out in the bathroom so that Billie won’t catch him sneaking screen time. The avalanche cracks open the rift in Billie and Pete’s marriage, especially since he can’t even bring himself to admit what happened. Since confronting her husband is like punching gelatin, Billie marches the family down to the resort’s public safety office to register a protest. But the burly Viking who takes their complaint (Kristofer Hivju, who played Zach Woods’ role in Force Majeure) insists the terrifying experience was handled “perfectly, ” and that Americans need to get over their instinct to threaten a lawsuit every time they bruise their shins. It’s one of the few times the movie brings the culture-clash element to the fore, and it ought to be a moment for the spouses to bond together, in nationalistic fervor if nothing else. But he backs down, leaving her alone yet again, her anger rising to fill the void of his silence. Louis-Dreyfus was an executive producer of Downhill — which was written by Faxon and Rash as well as Succession creator Jesse Armstrong — and a driving force behind the remake, and it’s not hard to see what drew her to it. Simmering frustration is squarely in her wheelhouse, and she showed in Enough Said that given the canvas of a feature film, she can mix it with a steady stream of melancholy. But over the course of the movie, that stream turns to vinegar, and by the end, the bitterness is all you can taste. This isn’t a movie about two people who love each other experiencing a bump in the road. It’s a movie about people who should have split up long ago, bound together because starting over would be too much trouble. On a chairlift ride when it’s just the two of them, Rosie tells Billie that if her boyfriend did that to her, she would be gone in a flash, no questions asked and no waiting around for an apology. “How old are you? ” Billie asks her, and Rosie responds, “30. ” That’s the end of the conversation. There’s a straight-ahead drama to be made from this situation (even if Julia Loktev’s The Loneliest Planet already did so), but Downhill too often plays like a cringe comedy that’s all cringe. It’s not just uncomfortable; it’s unpleasant. A movie that was even more squarely on Billie’s side might at least be able to generate some righteous anger, but every once in a while, this one drifts back to moping around with Pete, everyone hoping that he’ll finally rise to the occasion, until you start to feel that he’s wasting your life, too. Billie and Pete may be stuck with each other, but that’s no reason we have to hang around.

Play 0:00 0:00 Settings Fullscreen level 1 I remember going to this mall just about every week growing up in the 2000s. I remember visiting a couple of years ago and was shocked at how much things have changed. I know malls are dying nationwide due to the rise of e-commerce, but it’s still sad to see them as a decaying shell of what they used to be in the 1980s-2000s. level 2 It's also just the fact that they're all the same and they all sell mostly cheap crap. I think people are over paying for brands that suck. Like when I was a teen girl Victoria's secret was so cool and now there are legit comfortable bra brands made by women and not owned by Jeffrey Epstein's butt boy. level 2 Hillsdale, Stanford Shopping Center, and Valley Fair seem to be doing just fine. Of course those are in more affluent areas. level 2 They could turn this mall into some kick-ass senior housing. Keep some of the stores and restaurants, maybe have a movie theater. That would be sweet. I'd retire there. level 2 Malls have been coming and going for decades. Sometimes a location works out, sometimes it doesn't. There used to be a huge mall in downtown Long Beach, but after LA riots neighborhood changed, and it just died within a few years. They demolished it, replaced it with mixed neighborhood - shops on ground floor, apartments on top, small blocks. level 2 Malls will soon convert to entertainment centers. Think VR, indoor rollercoasters. level 2 True yet Concord sun valley mall is hopping, every store front filled, people bustling everywhere. According to the signs found throughout, Hilltop is about to go thru a big rebuild. level 2 Lived down the street from here after graduating college for about 5 years. Sad to see it so desolate. level 2 They've done a LOT of work to Make Stanford Nice Again. It's worked. They've made it look really good, and livened up the place. There are now a bunch of restaurants and gyms there, and things that aren't strictly retail. level 2 Its not the e commerce that is killing ’s the tax breaks that have closed to the owners of such malls and politics with the city on how to utilize the space. There is a reason places like valley fair and blossom hill mall are thriving while vallco was demolished. Edit: not oakridge, blossom hill. level 1 I feel like the zombies of Mrs. Field's are gonna come around the corner. level 2 That one definitely hit hard. You know a mall is truly a zombie mall when even Mrs. Field’s jumps ship and leaves. level 1 It's kind of ironic that the malls and big box stores that put all the mom and pop stores out of business are now complaining that online is putting them out of business. level 1 Malls need to be redeveloped to include housing. Easy fix to solve both the housing crunch and retail decline. They are already, by necessity, able to handle traffic in/outflow and they’re usually pretty convenient for public transportation. level 2 That’s actually what they are supposed to be doing. Housing, movie theater, new modern look etc. They moved all the stores that stayed to one side of the mall so they could do construction on the other 95% of the mall. Everything was supposed to be ready spring 2020. It’s looking like at best 2021 if they even want to anymore. I went in there a couple weeks ago. It’s pretty depressing to see.

Interesting that the film only premiered at Sunday the 26th of January, 3 days ago and people on here are posting from before that date how bad it is. Was it on somewhere else, or are they just psychics.
